 About
ABOUT

I started my apprenticeship in 1975 in Toronto under the direction of Hans Moeller.

Between 1975-1980, I worked with tuners and technicians such as Vern Edquist and Ted Sambell (tuners for Glenn Gould), Alex Brickus, George Avis and Bill Metcafe, (all who worked in the famous Heintzman factory ) who taught me everything they could about their expertise in the business. Hans was of the opinion that I should get the best training available and was not at all selfish in his desire to share his knowledge. As a mentor, he was the best.

In 1980, I moved to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island and set up my own business of piano tuning and restoration. This also included 15 years of care and maintenance of the pianos at Vancouver Island University.

In 1987, I was invited to The Banff Centre for the Arts, where I continued working with Ted Sambell and a variety of other qualified tuners and technicians as a summer assistant.

After 30 years of business, tuning, rebuilding and regulating both grand and upright pianos and 22 years working for The Banff Centre for the Arts, I am fulfilling my dream and truly enjoying my work.

Well-known musicians I have tuned for:

Hugh Fraser, Chucho Valdes, Don Thompson, Kenny Werner, Cecil Taylor, Dave Douglas, Isobel Rolston, Gyorgy Sebok, Marc Durand, Marek Jablonski, Menahem Pressler, Piers Lane, Duke Ellington Big Band, Murray Mc Laughlin, Dianna Krall, Jon Kimura Parker, Lydia Wong, Angela Cheng, John Perry, Oliver Jones, André Laplante, Kevin Fitz Gerald, Bernadene Blaha, Michel Kim, Gilbert Kalish, Tommy Banks, McCoy Tyner, Heather Schmidt, Gryphon trio, Anton Kuerti, Janina Fialkowska, Chris Atzinger, Sam Rotman, Chantal Kreviazuk, Ian Parker.
